How to Make Improvements That Matter
People Are #1
Your team is everything, your most valuable resource. Invest in your team before you spend on new gear. The right people in the right positions will take your production value to the next level. Invest in your team by giving them resources: training, tools, books, etc. Then, they will help you make the best decisions about gear purchases. You can do so much more with great people and minimal gear.
The Importance of Lyrics
Lyrics accomplish three things. They help the worship team, direct the congregation, and, most importantly, change lives. That’s an extreme statement, but here’s how it’s true. When you use more than one of the five senses for any action, it’s scientifically proven to improve the impact on the person—significantly! So, when the congregation is speaking/singing the lyrics as well as reading them, there is higher comprehension, which allows the message to take deeper root.
Camera Placement Can Destroy a Live Stream
Whether you have 1 or 100 cameras, the placement and framing can make or break a live stream. Visual aesthetics has a significant psychological impact on the viewer. When you watch movies, notice how the framing of a subject can make you feel excited, fearful, or incite anticipation. When capturing a church service, how much more important is it to use these tools to properly convey what the Lord is doing in your service.
Don’t Just Press Buttons
As the video team lead, the Video Director must immerse themselves in the full responsibility of the duties beyond the switcher. Leading and pastoring the team, providing creative direction, executing the technical aspects of the event… It’s so much more than pushing buttons. If this job description of a video director sounds foreign to you, you might reconsider the purpose of your video ministry.
